Description

Mornington Island Rural Hospital is a Level 1 rural and remote hospital comprising 11 inpatient beds.

Health services available include 24-hour acute inpatient care, accident and emergency, general primary healthcare management, radiology, pharmacy and antenatal care up to 36 weeks gestation.

Outreach health services include women's health, dental, optometrist, gynaecologist, eye team, mental health as well as regular allied health services.

Mornington Island Community Health is staffed by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health workers and nurses. In partnership with hospital staff and other government agencies, they provide health assessment, chronic disease management as well as health education and promotion programs.

Mornington Island Health Council formed in late 2013 to formalise local representation and ownership of healthcare delivery.

Mornington provides financial assistance through the Patient Travel Subsidy Scheme to eligible patients who need to travel to other health services for procedures and tests not available locally.

Telehealth services link patients and staff with other facilities via video-conference and have seen real cost savings and demonstrated patient care benefits.
